Network Cable Installer

Our client are currently looking pt grow their team and will begin interviews for A network cable installation specialist. This role involves setting up and maintaining the physical cabling infrastructure that supports communication and data transfer between computers, servers, routers, AV and other devices. OB22

Key Responsibilities:

• Laying out and installing various types of network cables such as Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6a, fiber optic cables, and coaxial cables.
• Installing and terminating cables in patch panels, wall jacks, network cabinets, and other network-related hardware.
• Labeling and documenting installed cables for future maintenance or upgrades.
• Understanding the requirements for network performance and laying out the cabling system accordingly.
• Planning cable routes, including conduits, cable trays, and drops in commercial or residential buildings.
• Following local building codes and industry standards (like TIA/EIA) for cable installation.
• Testing cables using network cable testers to ensure proper connectivity and signal strength.
• Diagnosing and troubleshooting any network issues related to physical cabling.
• Performing continuity tests to ensure all connections are functioning as required.
• Identifying faulty or damaged cables and replacing them as needed.
• Maintaining an organized and labelled infrastructure for easy access and troubleshooting.
• Regularly updating and maintaining cable documentation, such as network diagrams.
• Adhering to safety standards and protocols when working in potentially hazardous environments (high ceilings, crawl spaces, etc.).
• Ensuring that the cabling meets all necessary safety and compliance regulations, including fire codes and electrical standards.

Required Skills:

• Understanding of different types of network cables and connectors (e.g., RJ-45, fiber optic, etc.).
• Familiarity with network devices like routers, switches, modems, and hubs.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and network diagrams.
• Precision in installing and terminating cables to avoid future problems.
• Proper labelling and documentation to maintain an organized network infrastructure.
• Comfort working in various physical positions, including bending, lifting, and reaching in tight spaces or elevated areas.
• Ability to use hand tools such as crimpers, cable testers, and drills for cable installation.
• Quickly identifying and troubleshooting network connectivity issues.
• Resolving problems with network hardware or cable configurations.
• Working with project managers, IT staff, and other team members to coordinate installation and ensure the project meets its goals.
• Documenting the installation process and any issues that arise for future reference.
